I’ve long loved tinkering and own a decent number of tools, multimeter, iron, etc. but honestly have only dabbled with actual physical repair.
In any event, this thing on eBay is a fraction of the price new or used and from watching tronicsfix’s videos, I feel like it should be salvage-able and cheaper than purchasing a new one. I have no idea if that’s a reasonable feeling, though.

So when buying broken items, what are the red flags to stay away from? Water damage? Does something like the lamp above seem at the outset to be fixable?
Thanks!
