PS4 controller static electricity

I had my controller plugged into my ps4 last winter. Static electricity is horrible in my house. I have since fixed that issue but I got zapped when I picked up my controller. System was safe but I lost the Right trigger in my controller. I have since bought a new controller but I would like to try and fix this one. I am looking for suggestions at what I should test on the board to figure out what got zapped. I am handy enough with a soldering iron but have little experience with tracing circuits. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
