PS5 EDM-010, no boot, no UART error Empty, Blue led 2sec

Hi everyone,

I’m currently troubleshooting a PS5 (EDM-010 board) with a 2-sec Blue Light of Death (BLOD), and I’m stuck. I could really use some guidance from the community.

Here is a summary of what I’ve tested and ruled out so far:

  • Symptoms: Powers on, emits a single beep, blue light stays on for about 2 seconds, then shuts down completely.

  • Standby Rails: All stable (5V, 3.3V, 2V, 1.15V around the Dialog PMIC RT5126) with no voltage drop before the crash.

  • Liquid Metal & Short Circuits: Thoroughly cleaned and checked; no liquid metal spill or short on the APU components. No shorts found on the Southbridge, Wi-Fi/BT module, or the newly replaced HDMI encoder chip.

  • Main 12V Rail: No massive short on the main input or the MOSFET input capacitors.

  • UART: Unfortunately, I get zero logs. I verified my CP2102 adapter via loopback test (it works fine), continuity on the TX trace is good, but it outputting anything.

Helped by this video : www[dot]youtube[dot]com/watch?v=KBA9Pf1kaak&t=697s. I monitored power-on voltages, and I noticed that one of the GDDR6 coil tries to ramp up (surging past 1.25V momentarily), but the second one stays dead, and the overall rail output never reaches its required 1V. The system cuts power right after this failure.

Has anyone encountered this specific behavior on an EDM-010 ?

Thanks in advance for any advice or pointers!

If you monitor the UART TX signal, you should get an output:

OK 00000000:3A
$$ [MANU] UART CMD READY:36

If not maybe TX and RX are swapped?

If you make a NOR dump, you can read out the UART errors from the dump.
The UART errors offset starts at 0x001C5100.
Or you use Dony’s tool to extract the UART codes from a dump automaticly: GitHub - apewalkers/PlayStation-5-NOR-ErrorLog: Decodes Error DBI from PS5 NOR DUMP · GitHub (Python required)

I checked the tx trace, swap the rx/tx and checked with a loop. I never received anything from the UART port.

Thanks, I’ll check with a bios dump, I never do this but I’ll try

Hi,
I retried with another USB adapter. It gives me an error log :

errlog 0:DB

← errlog 0:DB

← OK 00000000 80810001 FFFFFFFF FFFF0023 00000100 2141 0036 FFFF 1840:D0

C00C0303: VRM Controller Access error

Do you know how to continue to investigate ?

Regards

Take a closer look at the VRM controller. According to your log, there seems to be something wrong with it.

I tryed to wap it but it changes anything. I’m a little blocked, don’t know where to search.

I found somewhere that, I may have to check each MOSFET on the 1v line but without thermal camera isn’t it impossible? and how to do it ?

Did you find the error? Have exactly the same errors in the error memory 80810001, C00C0303.

Thank you for your help!

Check here.

But first remove the liquid metal and inspect apu for cracks or splits

Thank you, that looks good so far, what do I expect for tension here? Maybe I can help, I’m desperate.

I found the pcb boardview for edm-010. I’m continuing to search

Forgot to mention I have an EDM-020 board with disk. I checked all the fuses, they are all intact and ok. I also read the UART codes. I mean the same ones as described above. Hang a picture of it. I just can’t find the mistake. The thermal image camera also doesn’t really show anything as a short circuit. Power supply time with 300mA and then drops down to 6mA.

Remove all liquid metal and inspect apu for cracks

I checked the APU, it looks normal, no cracks or anything else. What I noticed is that there are no voltage concerns in the control system for GDDR6 switching, but there is also no short circuit.

C00C0303 = VRM controller access error

How would you go about this? What would you check next? Do you have any tips?

I would check the readings around the XDPE chip.
