BQ Chip Replaced, Good Until I Booted, Now Shorted Again...help?

Hi, all. Been lurking for a few months now and soaking up knowledge. I tried my first BQ chip replacement for a shorting BQ and after MUCH struggle I finally got it right and all the caps and resistors back on that I knocked off, lol. After the fix the caps around BQ were no longer shorting.

I plugged it in and it was pulling 0.48a at 15v where it was doing 0.05a before I believe. I pressed the power button and the logo came on and I was ecstatic. Then it just went black. I tried again and the same thing happened. Then I noticed the charging went down to 0.15a and it will no longer even give me a logo. I tested the BQ caps and the two large caps to the left are now shorting again.

Honestly I’m really dejected after this. It took me HOURS to get that BQ right and now I’ve got to do it again and don’t know what else is wrong. The M92 was fine with no shorted caps before and after the boot issue.

I saw a few similar posts but nothing exactly the same. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I would be suspicious of the charge port, have you had a good look at it under a microscope?

Seconded on a likely bad charge port. Also, the second BQ replacement will almost certainly be easier than the first.

thanks! I did look at it and it seemed fine, but now I’m getting 0.00A on one side, so clearly it’s bad. Might be something gone wrong on the row of pins on board I can’t see. will try that

you are absolutely right! I finally figured out my temps and airflow and getting the right size soldering tip made all the difference on clean up. Had to find the goldie locks version since my others were too big or too small (conical).
