Can the PS5's NVMe expansion slot be used as a boot drive?

Say if the soldered SSD fails in the future, can you install a new NVMe drive in the expansion slot and use it to boot from?

Kind of skeptical since Sony has touted how much more performance they get out of having the custom SSD > CPU link. But still would be helpful to have that “reparability.”

Thanks

Not sure, especially since there is no way to get to any type of “Boot” menu, at least as of now.
