Charging with 5V but not 15V

I have a switch that didn’t charge/power on at all with the official Nintendo power adapter. It did charge/power on with 5V supplied by a USB-A to USB-C. I did fix the charging problem by replacing the M92T36 chip.

But if I wasn’t able to repair this myself or afford the repair right away, does anyone know how long a switch might be able to operate this way? (without M92 degrading further and not charging on any voltage, or damage to additional IC chips) Would charging the switch with 5V be a short-term or possible long term alternative to board level repair?
