Dear Sir,
I hope you are doing well. I am reaching out because a frustrating new error has appeared on a PS5 console, and I would highly value your expert insight.
The Core Issue
The problem started immediately after downloading the latest PlayStation system update. The update failed on its own (there was no power outage or forced shut-off), and the console became stuck in Safe Mode.
Timeline of Events
-
Initial Bypass: We initially used the Repair Console Storage and Rebuild Database options. This temporarily allowed the PS5 to boot to the home screen and work normally, though it still stubbornly refused to install the new update.
-
Temporary Usage: My friend continued to use the PS5 for gaming in this state, hoping Sony would eventually release a secondary, uncorrupted patch to fix it.
-
The Lockout: Before long, the system stopped allowing him to play online games entirely until the console was updated, No update == No use of wifi. Attempting the update locks the PS5 right back into Safe Mode.
Troubleshooting Steps Attempted
We have exhausted all standard software troubleshooting, and every single one has failed:
-
USB Update: Attempted updating via USB after repairing storage and rebuilding the database. The ps5 does copy the file from usb but it does not install. (Failed)
-
Standard Reset: Performed a factory reset. The reset itself was successful, but upon booting, it immediately demanded the update again, which failed. (Failed)
-
Hard Reset (System Reinstallation): Attempted a complete system software reinstallation using the full reinstallation file via USB. (Failed — any type of new software installation is completely rejected). It does copy but refuses to install.
Hardware Inspection
As a last resort, we took the console to a local technician. He thoroughly inspected the internal hardware and could not find a single physical fault or issue with the boards/cables.
Given that the hardware appears physically sound but the software refuses to install under any circumstances, we are completely stumped. Nevertheless, the technician says it must be a hardware problem. Your insight or theories on what might be causing this system-level rejection would help us very much.
Thank you for your time and your expertise.
Best regards,
