Edm 033 - ce108262-9

Symptoms:
Launching a game, after a random amount of time the console shuts down. Sometimes complete power off, other times it looks like a reboot attempt: blue LED starts blinking, then system powers off completely.

UART logs:
808B00FF
80830018
80800000

Sometimes also:
808B0000

PS5 error history:
Only CE-108262-9 present, no other errors logged.

Thermal check:
RAM temps around 60 to 64°C, nothing stands out and no single chip appears hotter than the others.

However, I found this component: after only 4 to 5 seconds from power on it already reaches around 50°C and keeps climbing further. Any ideas if this behavior is normal or potentially related to the shutdown issue?

After further testing, I noticed that the overall system temperature seems significantly higher than normal.

In the dashboard, RAM temperatures are already around 80-85°C.

During gameplay, most RAM chips reach 105-108°C, while RAM bank 5 consistently climbs to 115/117°C.

These temperatures seem unusually high to me.

Could an overheating or partially defective RAM chip be causing the random shutdowns?
Sometimes it shuts down completely, while other times it appears to attempt a reboot because the blue LED keeps blinking for 3 to 5 seconds before the console powers off completely.

Since bank 5 is consistently the hottest one, would it make sense to start troubleshooting from that RAM chip first?

The component I mentioned earlier (504x) appears to behave normally. Its temperature rises quickly after power on but then stabilizes at around 80°C and does not continue increasing indefinitely.

504x/MM3504A00RRE chip is a regulator likely generates 0.75v_SOCVDDP to vram and CPU. I doubt it gets hot due to the overcurrent draw by output(CPU or VRAM) rather than the chip failed.

I think you’re right. I initially suspected the 504x/MM3504A00RRE because it gets quite hot, but after checking one of my fully working EDM-010 boards, I noticed very similar thermal behavior from the same regulator.

Since the EDM-010 is completely stable and operates normally, it seems this temperature is likely expected for this IC under load.

But in your experience, does the overall Ram / system temperature appear higher than what you would normally expect on a healthy board?

The overall temperature should be less than 75C on EDM010/020 from my exp. I only found dying CPU would cause entire board and GDDR5 ram fires up (80C+), especially on some smaller size slim model i.e edm04x

I would remove the clay/putty on the vram mosfet and obsever the if any of them hits up more than others. In your case the chance would be low but that’s something easy to check.

I checked the MOSFETs and none of them show any abnormal temperatures.

I’m currently using QA INSP and:

  • RAM test: passed, no issues detected.

  • SSD Access test: the console consistently shuts down after 5, 6, or sometimes 10 - 30 cycles (Random)

    Could be ssd / ssd controller?

Update It ALWAYS shuts down on the SSD access test. The test starts and after a while the counting slows down…then it freezes and the console turns off, sometimes rebooting with a blue light and then dying completely. Afterwards it just beeps and then turns back on.
