eMMC overheating after Picofly install, please help!

That cap goes into Vddi(C3) of the emmc. It should read 0.53v in diode reading. Remove the cap and check again, otherwise, emmc is toasted

Thanks! I checked that VDDI point again and it beeps but still shows like 0.003V. So I should remove it then test the pad it was on to see if it is 0.53v?

I removed one leg of the cap and tested that pad and am getting 0.514V. Does this mean that cap just needs replacing? Thx

Yes, I believe that’s a 2.2uF cap.6.3v voltage rate should be good

oh wow, I wonder if that will fix it. I had to look online and found a post that said it might be 3.3 V. Do you think I should stick with 6.3? I found these caps on eBay, maybe they are the right ones?

Hmm might be 0402 2.2UF 10V X7R size actually

VOLTAGE RATE does not make much difference if you using one over its working voltage. A cap has 3.3v working voltage and you use 6.3v rated or 10v for example does not matter.

It is a 0402 in imperil. I suggest you check if emmc working before ordering new cap

Plug it back in the flex and boot it with modchip.

If you don’t think the mod installed properly, remove the mod and connect emmc module back into board then boot it as it used to be.

Ooh ok thank you, I didn’t know it would be safe to boot with one leg of that cap off as the trace won’t be connected.

Wow, this is kind of amazing. I plugged it in and turned it on. The eMMC chip did not overheat (!), the blue light on the Picofly flashed and the screen showed the picofly no SD card image.

It did turn off after that and now flashes blue then 3 yellows. I think I need to redo/check the soldering on the APU on the lefft as that seems loose now. I presume I am OK to order/try the 0402 2.2UF 6.3v cap? I do have that missing cap on the APU but I think it is not needed (plus it is too tiny for me). Thank you!!

Hi!

I soldered on a replacement cap just now and it boots up and does not overheat! The replacement cap testing on diode mode beeps and says around 0.5v.

I am still missing that cap by the APU but I think it will be ok. I really appreciate everyone sticking by me, I was pretty sure I would need a new one.

Unfortunate update…I kept getting power error messages and now it is having problems booting. I resoldered the cap on the EMMC but it hasn’t improved things much. I’m going to give up on this one for now! Appreciate it!
