my 3ds xl stopped responding to the charger so i’m going to have to replace the charger port but i’d like to ask if anyone has any recommendations for first time soldering? like what to get and what its for. i’ve worked on devices a few times before but havent had to replace a piece on a board until now.
also, any tips on getting those awful nintendo screws out? like they always get worn out so quickly so if anyone knows how to get one of the bad ones out, pls lmk!!
Hi,
You need at least:
- Flux (no clean)
- A good soldering iron (ideally a hot air station; you can use high heat : 400°C, without having to hold it in one spot)
- A desoldering pump, desoldering braid, or both
- Kapton tape to protect the surrounding area
Ideally, having “low-melt” solder can help melt the existing solder and reduce the heating time.
For the screws, get an electronics screwdriver kit (they often include tri-wing bits); that should save you from stripping the screws.
