I’m hoping to get some technical insight into a specific issue I’ve encountered on two different PS5 DualSense boards.
I’ve successfully replaced Hall Effect and TMR joysticks on over 50 controllers, but I have two boards—one BDM-020and one BDM-040—exhibiting the exact same symptom after a joystick swap:
-
The Problem: The Mute button is completely unresponsive.
-
The Symptom: The orange Mute LED is permanently “On.”
-
Troubleshooting done: I’ve tested the boards outside of the housing to ensure there is no physical interference or a stuck button.
I’m wondering if this is a known byproduct of a specific trace being damaged during the desoldering of the original pots, or if it’s a common short-circuit point near the joystick modules that affects the mute/audio circuit.
Has anyone seen this “Always On” LED behavior after a joystick replacement? Any ideas on which components or traces I should check for continuity or bridging?
Appreciate any help!
