My 3DS XL can't connect to the internet, can I replace the motherboard without losing my data?

Hi there. My 3DS XL stopped working at some point when it was dropped on the floor. When I tried to power it on, it would boot for 10 secs before crashing. As soon as I disabled the wifi switch during those 10 seconds the 3DS became usable again. It seems like if I want to fix the 3DS to be able to connect to the internet again, then I’d need to replace the motherboard. I have a donor 3DS XL with a broken hinge on standby which I could use. What would the consequences be of doing this and would it affect my save data at all? Any knowledge or advice on this topic would be greatly appreciated

I would check the WiFi module for propper sitting in the connector, remove it and set it again. If it doesn’t solve the issue, I would take the WiFi module from the other motherboard and test again.

Hi Calvin,

Managed to get the 3DS open last night and following your advice, I got it working again  Just had to unplug and replug the wifi board to get it working.

Thanks so much for your help!
