Nintendo Switch draws 470mA one side on 5v only and boots

Yes, I understand the ‘signal’ problems that may occur, although in my case was only wrongly wired - I also used a tiny bit of UV-ink on connector and it seems to have lasted my many times working on it and as expected and fixed when I finally got the correct scribbled wiring.

Yes of course one might get interference from outside and from each other (wires), although one could apply Kapton + aluminium + Kapton onto the wiring to avoid external interference which in my view is higher than each-other interference - depending on which frequencies build-up within internal connections - no idea and I might be hugely wrong.

I actually have some replacement pads and only used them once on something else and they were good - although I wasted 3 before I managed to fit one - a new skill!

You need to get used to use them and that is a good way.
But maybe manually add wire rather than those pads might be better, but adds a bit of thickness.

Note:
One of my jobs in Radio communications - as far as I remember, it was a long time ago - after repair was to finely tune interference off the main transmitting frequency (mostly UHF or higher) using a VERY expensive Spectrum Analyser made by Rohde & Schwarz - a huge portable one as well + a huge all-in-one portable instrument for repairing Transceivers.
Those instruments were about £. 5,000 30 years ago! Pfff

Addition: the good thing about wiring that way, is that one can use connector and even if it moves internally when plugging unplugging, the wires follow the connector, therefore will not detach, if well soldered.

Just a thought…

Hey, just lemme know and I’ll send you a PM if your customer winds up wanting to go ahead with the repair.

Yeah, that was my feeling about the potential issues this could have such as handshake etc, I’ve also had cases where charring of the USB plastic was enough to knock out charging/dock functionality due to high resistance across pins

HI, OK.
I asked about the PM - I do not see how to actually ‘send’ a PM only because he will need to know the costs involved before he says yes - that was all.

PS
The dock non-functioning was only due to wrong pins connected, once I found correct way and re-scribbled wiring, it worked straight away - I have not seen a false contact since wiring it and connector is still new - checked under microscope. The only top pins were soldered manually - no hot blower on it. I knew I would solve that, my main concern always was the orange screen.

Customer agrees, as long as it does not get higher.

Just PM and we will see…
I havre no idea how to PM on ‘this’ forum.

Just to conclude here, Severence fixed it for my customer.

Thank you for your efforts, appreciated and really nice to see that ‘some’ Technician actually know what they are doing in 2022 - too many chancers out there and when I saw my limits, I asked for help - like a ‘normal’ person!

In this instance I was certainly not accustomed to Nintendo and although I really like these consoles, I am not doing these repairs at present.

Something else opened to me … and I am trying to do that [and maybe continued it from home] … then I might do just port replacements on various Consoles, I know I can do some of them well - I did, but have not done in a long time!

I am not far from official retirement - just a few years … still do not know if continue a bit ‘from home’ or … just take slow and enjoy life with my partner or both!

See you, when I see you…
