No Fan Spin, C6 Shorted

Hey there,

I’m pretty new at console repair. Done quite a few HDMI port replacements, and one shorted C216 replacement successfully.
Now I’m trying to fix a Series X with no fan spin. Everything else seems to function.

I figured out C6 was shorted on the 12v pin of the fan. I replaced it, but the fan is still not spinning.

With only the PSU connected to SB board, I get 12v at the fan connector. But when fan is plugged in, it drops down to 2v. Not sure if that’s normal while not fully assembled, or where to go from here.

The 12V at the fan shouldn’t drop. It seems that there is an issue with the fan. Normally the fan gets 12V all the time and the PWM signal is setting up the RPMs. I would try another fan.

Forgot to mention, I already tried a replacement fan. Ordered from Microsoft. Can maybe try powering the 12v from bench supply to confirm?

Hmm, yeah fan spins up fine with 12v bench supply. Gotta be something on the Xbox side with V_12P0_GATED. Not sure where thats generated on the v2 SB board. Doesn’t have labelled test points.

Figured it out

Ended up being this 0ohm resistor. Was measuring 0.3M Ohms

Nice. You found the issue and a solution.
But how do you measured 12V at the fan connector if the fuse was blown?

Wasn’t fully burned out, 0.3 Megaohms. Think current has to flow for resistance to happen, so with no load, still read 12v on multi-meter.
