I’m trying to help a friend who lives the other side of the country with his series S. He has been getting this poor ventilation message.
This Xbox console is designed to automatically shut down to protect it from insufficient ventilation.
Like other electronic devices, the Xbox console requires proper ventilation. To help prevent another automatic shutdown:
- Do not block any of the ventilation openings on the console or power supply.
- Do not place the console or power supply in a confined space or fully enclosed space, such as a closed stereo cabinet, or bookshelf entertainment centre, unless the space is well ventilated and cabinet doors are open.
- Do not place the console or power supply on a bed, sofa or other soft surface that may block ventilation openings.
- Do not place the console or power supply near any heat sources, such as radiators, heat registers, stoves or amplifiers.
He has cleaned the fan and vents etc. I have advised on replacing the thermal paste as well. I’ve not worked on Xbox before but love the channel and thought I would ask on here if there are any common issues that he could try before taking it to a grown up (repair shop). He hasn’t got much money hence why he reached out to me.
