Issue 1: PS2 Games Black Screen & Not All DVDs Play
When I put Dark Cloud 2 or Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance (they work in a PS2) in the system “thinks” for awhile and than stops. If I put Final Fantasy X, FF12, FF12 Demo Disc, etc it gets as far as showing the disc on the PS3 home screen. Clicking it the screen goes black and stays black with no sound or picture.
I also tried putting the The Rescuers & The Rescuers Down Under (DVD) and it wouldn’t read them. I then tried a DVD for ‘Tales from the Crypt’ S1 & ‘Eden of the East’ and it played both DVDs Fine.
The blu-ray drive is a single laser drive. Looking online I’ve seen people mentioning replacing the PS2 hardware in this model or try and see if the firmware on the board someone how got corrupted or lost. The 2nd solution I’m not sure how to begin and the Reddit post didn’t go into details on the “How”.
Issue 2: Ribbon Cable Replacement?
Two of the ribbon cables (one going from the blu ray to the mother board & the other from the blu ray to what I think is the PS2 board) the blue pieces are not attached. I’m assuming it would be best to just replace these or is there a safe way to re-attache the blue pieces?
Issue 3: Disc Drive Issue
The disc drive doesn’t always pull the disc in or it takes awhile to do it (5+sec.). Now it is pulling them in, but not setting them up correctly or ejecting them?
Below are photos on how the disc looks when opening the system & blu-ray drive:
Is this something can be fixed? I tried looking to see if something was out of place in the blu ray drive, but didn’t notice anything (see photos below):
System History & What I’ve Tried
The system was originally at a High School and well cleaning they told me to throw away a bunch of cameras, PS2s, couple of Wii’s, & this PS3 because they didn’t have the cords or batteries (cameras) for the stuff.
The PS3 was loaded with dust and had something sticky on the mother board. There was also corrosion around the hard drive and a few metal brackets. When I hooked up the PS3 (before cleaning it) it would only play PS3 games. It didn’t recognize blu-ray, ps2, ps1, or DVDs. Also the system had been taken apart before I got it as the security screw wasn’t attached and the system was missing a couple of screws. The system also had issues pulling discs in. After cleaning it it played PS1, PS3, & Blu-Rays fine. Still failed on PS2 and DvDs where a hit or miss. Also the disc drive would pull the games in a lot faster, but now they wont eject or align properly (see photos above in section: Disc Drive Issue).
Note: I did take photos to share, but apparently this site doesn’t allow links or uploads. I’ve uploaded them to a temporary Gallery. Link in Profile.
