I got a PS3 “untested” from eBay for pretty cheap. Was hoping it would not be too crazy of a fix (or that it would just work).
First off: no power. I have a new power supply coming in the mail pretty soon, but after opening it to clean it out, I noticed all of the rust on one side. It appears to have eaten into the main motherboard. Given the pictures below, is it even advisable to try and power it up when I get the new power supply?
I cleaned the rust off of the metal pieces the best I could, but I feel like the damage to the motherboard will make fixing this console impossible.
