PS3 Super Slim has lost all audio and video output

My PS3 super slim has an issue with video and audio output. It worked just fine on HDMI, and one day just lost output signal. I tried connecting to a different TV, with different HDMI cables, and with the standard A/V cable, and nothing worked. I even let it sit untouched for several months and when I tried reconnecting it via HDMI, it worked!.. For a few minutes. Then it lost signal again. Tried a factory reset, but with no audio or video it’s kind of hard to know what I’m doing. I suspected the HDMI IC might be overheating, but why would it not work then with the OEM A/V plugs? And why are most people reporting bad HDMI IC has sound, but no picture? Is there something I am missing? Does A/V still get routed through the HDMI IC chip? Does the chip often fail completely killing video and audio? Is there another issue I could be overlooking???
