PS5 3A Auto-Trigger Loop on 12V Insertion Post-Southbridge Swap

Hello everyone,

I’m working on a PS5 EDM-010 board and hit a roadblock. Looking for some expert advice on what to check next.

1. Initial Fault & Repair History

2. Current Symptom (Current Draw Sequence)

Now, the 3.3V standby rail has recovered, but when plugging in the 12V main power supply, the DC power supply shows the following exact loop:

  1. 0m to300m

  2. Drops down to a stable 24mA

  3. Suddenly spikes to 2.6Aor3A auto-triggering. APU area heat up and cool down and desappear.

  4. Instantly drops back to 24mA and latches there (Over-current protection kicking in).

if you dont have a short on the power_btn line, the southbridge you replaced might have issue, redo or replace it again accordingly.

I measured about 10k ohm resistance and 0.800 V diode reading on a working southbridge power_btn line(top side of 120 ohm resistor) next to power button flex

Yeah that resistor near power button is shorted. I found it leads to a pad under southbridge so I have to reball it or replace another one. Thanks man!

the resistor is 120 ohm by default, should not consider to be a short by all mean.
