PS5 EDM-030: Dead short on 12V rail after shutting down mid-game

Hi everyone, looking for some advice on isolating a 12V short on a PS5 (EDM-030 motherboard).

Symptoms & History:

• Console abruptly shut down while playing a game. Completely dead now (no light, no beep).

• Customer confirmed the wall outlet and power strip are fine (other appliances work).

  
  

Diagnosis So Far:

• Power supply is verified working standalone.

• Motherboard 12V main power rail (prongs) is dead shorted to GND (~0 Ω).

• Injected 1V at shorted caps (I circled in red near 12v pins)using a thermal camera, but no heat spots were detected

• Found lots of caps are shorted

Please measure the resistance of the main power rail at the contact pins again. Keep the probes in place for a little longer.

At first, a reading of around 0 Ω can be normal because of the capacitors connected in parallel. They need a moment to charge from the multimeter, and the resistance reading should then start to increase.

Please also keep the probes on the capacitors for a few seconds when measuring them and watch whether the resistance rises.

I have same issue. is there any update on how to find the short? Thermal camera can’t find any hot spot
