PS5 Error CE-108262-9

Hi, so this is a bit of a long story. So at first the audio and video of my PS5 would flicker green lights and the audio would sound like static. So I would just unplug the HDMI or restart it, and that would fix it. Then it started crashing when I would be playing games and it would turn off. But now it would crash after not even 5 minutes of gameplay and it kept doing that till it went into safe mode and the only option I had was to reinstall the software through a USB stick. I did that and it boot it up. I started installing games on the internal storage. I had games on a M.2. SSD, I tried to play those and it said they were corrupted. And it started crashing again. It would crash after just signing in to my account. So I reformatted the SSD and I put it into safe mode and reinstall the software again. And basically went through all the options. Repaired the storage etc. I turned it on and installed a game. But it keeps crashing, it will either turn off or restart and give me the error CE-108262-9. And it will say Repairing storage every time it restarts. So not sure what I should, Sony quoted me $230 to either fix it or send a refurbished one.

I did contact one of my local repair shops. I didn’t take it to them but I pretty much told them the same thing as the post. And they said
Hi Daniel,

Thank you for reaching out about your PlayStation 5 with data corruption issues. Unfortunately, we won’t be able to repair your system due to the complexity of the components involved.

The PlayStation 5’s SSD controller and SSD chips are what’s called BGA (Ball Grid Array) type, which are very difficult to replace without specialized equipment that we don’t have. Additionally, these chips are “married” to the system’s main processor (APU), meaning they work together in a way that makes it very tricky and expensive to repair.

Given the difficulty and cost of addressing this specific type of issue, it wouldn’t be economical for us to offer this service. We’d recommend looking into other repair shops that have the specialized equipment or considering contacting Sony directly for support. If there are any standing warranties, these would also be a great option to explore.

You are one of the unfortunate users that have this kind of issue. It looks like the issue is with the built-in storage, especially considering the local repair shop reply. If you do not want a PS5 Pro, I would take a refurbished one. I don’t think you will be able to find a new PS5 within 230 USD even on Black Friday.

PS: Don’t ever disconnect HDMI from a device if the device or the TV are turned on. There is enough electricity going through HDMI that it can damage the device or the TV or even both. I managed to ruin a PS2 HDMI adapter with active power this way. I was lucky that I did not break the PS2 or the TV.
