PS5 Slim EDM-041 – No Power, One Beep After HDMI Port Replacement – Need Help Diagnosing

Hi everyone,

I’m currently working on a PS5 Slim with an EDM-041 motherboard and I’m trying to diagnose a no-power issue that occurred after replacing the HDMI port.

What happened

The console originally had a damaged HDMI port. I removed it and installed a replacement.

After the first replacement, the PS5 actually powered on with a blue light and displayed an image. However, I noticed that some of the HDMI pins were not soldered correctly.

I corrected the soldering, but after that the console stopped powering on completely.

The current behavior is:

  • No blue or white light
  • No fan spin
  • Only one beep when pressing the power button
  • Then nothing happens
  • The HDMI port is currently completely removed for troubleshooting

Because the problem occurred directly after working on the HDMI port, I initially suspected that I may have caused a short during the repair.

Troubleshooting so far

I have been checking the board for shorts around the HDMI and power-related areas.

I found a rail that measures approximately 60 Ω to ground in two different areas. I am currently trying to determine whether this resistance is normal for this rail or whether it indicates a faulty component somewhere on the rail.

I also removed the RT5127GQW (QFN40) to check whether it could be causing the problem, but removing it did not resolve the issue.

I have also checked the PSU outputs and the relevant power rails for the expected voltages.

UART

I was able to access the UART and received the following error:

80810001 – Severe power sequence error / general power failure

From what I understand, this error can potentially be related to a problem with a power rail, GDDR6, APU, data lines, or another part of the power-sequencing process.

Where I am stuck

My main question is:

Where should I continue troubleshooting the ~60 Ω rail on an EDM-041, and what would be the best way to determine whether this resistance is actually abnormal?

I would especially appreciate advice on:

  1. Whether ~60 Ω to ground on this rail is considered normal.
  2. Which rail this could potentially be.
  3. Which components or sections I should isolate next.
  4. Whether the PS5 should still attempt to power on with the HDMI port completely removed.
  5. Whether the 80810001 UART error can help narrow down which power rail or circuit is causing the problem.
  6. Are there any specific test points, coils, or measurements on the EDM-041 that would be useful at this stage?

I have a multimeter and hot-air/rework equipment, so I can remove components for further testing if necessary.

I can also provide pictures of the motherboard and the exact areas where I measure the ~60 Ω resistance to ground. The 60-90 Ω are also on this IC in the 1st Picture measured to GND.

Any advice on where I should continue troubleshooting would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Additional information:

I also tested the board with my laboratory power supply and checked the different voltage rails.

I can measure the expected voltages, including 12 V, 5 V, 3.3 V and 2 V, and the voltages are present where I would expect them to be.

However, what I find particularly strange is that I get virtually no current consumption from the laboratory power supply, neither in standby nor when pressing the power button to start the console.

So basically, the required voltages appear to be present, but the board does not seem to draw any current or start the power-sequencing process.

I’m wondering if this could help narrow down the fault or indicate where I should continue troubleshooting.

Can you provide the complete UART error string?

Hi here is the complete UART Code

C0160303 = PMIC SSD access error (case: short above F7502)
I would check DA9081/RT5127 for correct readings:
