Something burnt but what?

Here is the full history of what happened:

  • Xbox Series X bought in 2021, which was working fine before I go for a 3 week vacation.
  • This Sunday when I return, I saw that its fan is spinning as usual, you know, downloading updates and stuff.
  • I pressed the Xbox button on controller and console didn’t turn on.
  • I pressed the power button on the console and it made a electrical crackling noise and started giving some smoke from left rear side of the console.
  • Immediately I pulled the power cable. Some more smoke came from the same side with some burnt smell.
  • left side of the console was at 36 degrees(Celsius) at highest
  • after 5-10 minutes, I ejected the disc inside with the pin, put it in a safe place in case it was still burning/melting inside
  • 3 days later, I took it to a repair shop. They plugged the console, and it just worked.
  • since yesterday, i’m gaming on it and no issues except a little burnt smell if i smell the fan air.

I really have no idea about what to do. I believe in “if it aint broke, dont fix it” but i saw the smoke, i smelled the burn. Do you think it is safe to use the console? What could have burnt made the console still running? In the most weird occurrence: Does burnt spiders smell like burnt electronics? I havent opened the console(never opened a series x so I don’t want to break a working console)

You should pay something to the shop and tell them find where the burn smell came from

little update: that little smell is gone.

also, the shop I’ve went said they’ll charge 90 euros to open the console and clean it. And it is not that I’m incapable of tearing this apart, I’m just at the point of “is it really necessary?” and “isn’t it weird that it is still working?”

I think I need to take it apart to solve this mystery  but for that I need time… I’ll try to update here
