I’m looking for confirmation from anyone who’s come across this before.
I have a completely stock Nintendo Switch OLED (never modified) that consistently boots into RCM/APX mode, confirmed with TegraRcmGUI.
Current behaviour:
Charges normally at 15V, ~0.48A
No obvious shorts on any power rail
Always enumerates as APX/RCM
So far I’ve replaced or reworked the following with no change:
MT92T36
BQ24193
MAX77620
MAX77812
MAX17050
PI3USB
eMMC reballed
The behaviour is identical after every repair attempt.
From my understanding, AutoRCM shouldn’t be possible on a patched Mariko/OLED console, so I’m trying to understand what would make the BootROM enter RCM on completely stock hardware.
Could this be the BootROM failing to initialize the eMMC and therefore falling back into RCM? It seems like a strange behaviour, but it’s the only explanation I can come up with at this point.
Another possibility I was considering is that the VOL+ line is being unintentionally pulled low/high by a faulty capacitor or resistor, effectively making the SoC think the button is being held at boot. The problem is I don’t have reference values for that circuit, so I’m not sure what components to probe or what readings to expect.
I know the 15V, ~0.48A power draw is a fairly common “unknown fault” on OLED boards, but has anyone actually found the root cause for this combination of symptoms? Any ideas or similar repair experiences would be greatly appreciated.
