Update failure due to faulty disc drive

Looking to personally repair the disc drive on my playstation. Just wondering if you could help me find parts. Either the disc drive or even just the laser part. Also I would bring it to you guys but I am over in eastern Canada.

The best place for parts like that would be eBay: (affiliate link) https://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fsch%2Fi.html%3F_from%3DR40%26_trksid%3Dm570.l1313%26_nkw%3Dps4%2Bslim%2Bdisc%2Bdrive%2Bparts%26_sacat%3D171833%26LH_TitleDesc%3D0%26_osacat%3D171833%26_odkw%3Dps4%2Bdisc%2Bdrive%2Bparts&campid=5338241056&toolid=20008

Thank you for that. One more question. Where exactly do I find the proper serial/model number to replace the lens?

When you remove the old lens there will be a part number on it. Something like KES 490.

You can get lasers on eBay mate

https://rover.ebay.com rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com.au%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F123918933652 change the space between .com and rover to / it’s a slim laser

So I ordered a new laser for the disc drive, installed it and the update is still a no go due to the bluray drive not working. Here’s the thing though… I can play movies.

Could be an obscure fault on the board that the update is detecting sadly they detect even the most obscure faults if it’s not married to the main board just swap it out it’s likely your fault updates don’t usually care for the laser as far as I know they usually leave the bd board to deal with the optics internals while the update cares for the main boards
